Woman Arrested in Oshikoto Region for Alleged Concealment of Birth; Separate Incident of Suicide Reported

Oshikoto region: A 34-year-old woman from Enzile village in the Oshikoto Region has been arrested for allegedly concealing the birth of her child, a case that has drawn attention to issues of maternal health and family dynamics in the area. The suspect reportedly hid her pregnancy from her family and gave birth in secrecy, according to police authorities.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Chief Inspector Ellen Nehale-Kangulu of the Namibian Police Force’s Community Policing Sub-division stated that the woman informed her family that she had passed a blood clot, which she disposed of in nearby bushes, when questioned about her pregnancy. Her family, suspicious of the explanation, reported the matter to the police, leading to the woman’s hospital admission where tests confirmed her recent pregnancy. The baby’s body was discovered buried at the entrance of the family homestead, already decomposing, by the suspect’s mother. The woman is currently under police guard at the Omuthiya District Hospital.

In a separ
ate incident, the Oshikoto Region witnessed a tragic suicide at Onanke village in the Omuntele Constituency. A 47-year-old man was found dead after allegedly committing suicide by hanging. According to Chief Inspector Nehale-Kangulu, the man’s eight-year-old son found his father’s body hanging from a marula tree after returning home in the evening and informed his aunt, who then contacted the police. No suicide note was found at the scene, and the body was subsequently transported to the Omuthiya police mortuary.
