Tannounyan: The 2025 Regional Culture Week (RCW) of the Tannounyan region took place from October 11 to 12, 2025, in Banfora. During this event, artists, troupes, and traditional athletes showcased their talents in disciplines such as performing arts, culinary arts, and traditional wrestling.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the first day of the event focused on artistic performances, featuring 32 artists and groups. However, there were 5 absentees and 3 disqualifications. The culinary arts competition assessed 4 candidates on their local gastronomic skills. In the realm of traditional sports, wrestling was the sole discipline, with both male and female competitors. Out of 20 registered wrestlers, 12 advanced in 4 categories.
The event concluded on October 12 with the announcement of the winners. The top performers in culinary arts and traditional sports were chosen to represent the Tannounyan region at the National Culture Week (NCW) 2026 in Bobo-Dioulasso.
Governor Florent Badabou¨ Bazie, head of the SRC, highlighted the cultural richness of Tannounyan and stressed the importance of celebrating the region’s cultural heritage. He encouraged the continuation of efforts to engage younger generations in cultural activities and to uphold national identity.
Mr. Bazie expressed confidence in the region’s artists, urging them to excel at the upcoming SNC 2026. Lanssa Mose Kohoun, Secretary General of the SNC, representing the Director General, commended the region’s cultural vibrancy and noted that SRCs provide a platform for artistic expression and creativity.
Mr. Kohoun announced several innovations for the 22nd edition of the SNC, including an earlier start for qualifying phases and an increase in competition disciplines for the Burkinabe diaspora. A repechage system will be introduced for ballet and choreographic creation, allowing second-placed troupes with an average of at least 14/20 to participate in the final phase.
The Tannounyan SRC 2025 successfully highlighted local cultural heritage and set the stage for an innovative SNC 2026.
