WHO Emphasizes Communication as Key to Strengthening Trust in Angola’s Health System

Luanda: The World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Angola, Indrajit Hazarika, stated on Sunday in Luanda that effective communication is a crucial pillar for strengthening public trust in the health system and fostering the sector's development.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Indrajit Hazarika made these remarks at the National Workshop on Health Communication, highlighting the importance of a meeting dedicated exclusively to communication within the health sector, an initiative spearheaded by the relevant ministry. "Effective communication is not about demonstrating what we know, but ensuring that others understand-simplicity and clarity are among the greatest virtues of good interaction," he emphasized.

For Hazarika, institutional credibility is established through open, transparent, and evidence-based communication that actively listens to communities and addresses their concerns. He reaffirmed the WHO's commitment to continue supporting Angola through technical cooperation, capacity building, innovation, and the sharing of international best practices.

Meanwhile, Provincial Health Director Manuel Varela, representing Luanda Governor Lus Nunes, noted that communication has advanced beyond merely transmitting information. It now plays a strategic role in health promotion, crisis management, combating misinformation, and strengthening the relationship between health services and citizens. He advocated for communication grounded in transparency, ethics, inclusion, and ongoing dialogue with communities, emphasizing that the humanization of services also depends on the quality of information provided to citizens.

Varela further noted that the workshop provides an opportunity to reflect on health communication challenges, share experiences, and formulate recommendations that contribute to boosting public trust and improving the quality of health services in Angola.
