Narok: National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has called on Kenyans to reject tribal politics and embrace national unity, saying the country's future depends on leaders and citizens putting the national interest above ethnic and political considerations.
According to Kenya News Agency, Wetangula spoke at Nairau Primary School grounds in Narok North during a fundraiser towards women empowerment, where Sh5 million was raised. He emphasized that Kenya's progress would only be achieved through peaceful coexistence and respect for democratic competition. He warned that divisive, ethnic-based political maneuvering risks fracturing national cohesion, urging leaders to prioritize development, service delivery, and youth empowerment over political noise.
The Speaker stressed that Kenya's multi-ethnic diversity should serve as a source of national strength rather than division. He affirmed that true leadership is measured by the ability to unite the country and champion the common good rather than individual or ethnic interests. Wetangula urged every Kenyan to be treated with dignity, fairness, and equality, regardless of political affiliations, and to avoid being drawn into tribal politics.
Defending the Kenya Kwanza administration's development record, Wetangula argued that consistent policies and a clear vision are essential for national progress. He cited Singapore as an example of a country that has advanced due to consistent policies, development, and hard work. He warned against the temptation to use tribal loyalties as a pathway to power, which often comes at the expense of the people, creating divisions that persist long after elections.
Wetangula expressed support for President Ruto, suggesting that the current leadership deserves continuity to fulfill its promises to the electorate. He praised government efforts to empower citizens economically through initiatives aimed at enhancing capacity for business ventures and urged citizens to focus on tangible benefits rather than negative rhetoric.
He emphasized that the government has adopted a broad-based strategy, including all Kenyans regardless of political affiliations, under one unified vision for development and inclusion. He condemned politicians who sponsor violence through hired gangs to disrupt political meetings, urging them to use their own resources rather than involving innocent children.
Wetangula highlighted the importance of political competition not undermining national cohesion and called for respect, peace, and stability across the country. He expressed confidence in Kenya's future, crediting President Ruto's administration with laying the foundation for economic transformation and noting the maturity of Kenya's democratic institutions.
He praised community-driven initiatives and women leading organizations for their contribution to social and economic development, emphasizing that empowered women become catalysts for positive change within their families and communities.
Other leaders at the event echoed Wetangula's sentiments, highlighting the Rift Valley region's support for inclusive leadership and rejecting leaders who seek to divide Kenyans along ethnic lines. They commended President Ruto for his inclusive leadership, ensuring equal consideration for all regions.
