Western Cape police are serious about the fight against crime in the province

Concerted efforts to eradicate the illegal possession of firearms and drugs in our communities yielded success when police members arrested suspects for the possession of unlicensed firearms and confiscated dagga.

On Thursday, 18 May 2023, members of Grassy Park police were busy with patrols in 7th Avenue when they saw two men walking in the road and when they saw the marked police vehicle approaching, they started running. The members gave chase and found a 9mm pistol between the suspects where they were hiding. They were arrested and detained for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspects aged 31 and 38 will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on Monday, 22 May 2023 on the mentioned charges.

On Wednesday, 17 May 2023, members of the Cape Town K9 Unit and Crime Intelligence followed up information in Railway Road, Montague Gardens of a suspicious parcel at a courier company. A narcotic detection dog was used who reacted positive for narcotics. Upon further inspection of the parcels, the members discovered that each parcel contained compress hydroponics dagga with a total weight of 4kg. The hydroponic dagga with an estimated value of R600 000-00 was confiscated. The narcotics was handed in at Milnerton SAPS as exhibits and an enquiry docket was opened. Investigations continues.

Furthermore, members of Hermanus police received information of a suspicious vehicle with four occupants driving in the Zwelihle area. The vehicle was stopped and searched in Landa Street upon which the members found a rifle, a shotgun, ammunition and cellphones in the vehicle. Upon further investigation it was found that the vehicles was hijacked in Lentegeur during April 2023. Three suspects between the ages of 22 and 27 were arrested on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle as well as the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

They are due to make their court appearance in the Hermanus Magistrates court today.
