KOUDOUGOU, BOULKIEMDÉ – The Regional Coordination of Women’s Organizations in West-Central Burkina Faso held a training session on livestock farming for 43 couples of internally displaced persons (IDPs), followed by a donation of animals to help them start their own businesses. The event took place on July 25 and 26, 2024, in Koudougou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, president of the regional coordination, the training aimed to equip the IDPs with skills in animal husbandry, focusing on poultry’s habitat, nutrition, health, and reproductive health. Additionally, practical advice on farming was provided. Each of the 43 couples received ten hens and a rooster, intended to support them in establishing small-scale farming enterprises.
Ouédraogo emphasized the initiative’s goal to restore hope and facilitate the dignified integration of IDPs into their communities. She urged the participants to see the donated animals not just as livestock but as a starting point for potentially prosperous entrepreneurial ventures. The project received financial support from the Cellule d’appui à la décentralisation et à la participation citoyenne (CADEPAC) and the West-Central Regional Council.
Speaking on behalf of the IDPs, Ousmane Ouedraogo expressed gratitude for the support and assured that the community is committed to making the most of this opportunity. The activity’s patron, Ali Bonkoungou, CEO of Salsabil Building, also provided guidance and encouraged the new farmers to fully engage in their new enterprises.
The presence of numerous officials at the event underscored a communal commitment to ensuring that the IDPs are not forgotten and are supported in their efforts to rebuild their lives.
