Wend-ndila Cooperative in Zorgho Receives Essential Maize Processing Equipment

Zorgho: The Wend-ndila cooperative is satisfied with the support from the Ministry of Agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture, through the Directorate General for the Promotion of the Rural Economy (DGPER), provided the Wend-ndila cooperative in Zorgho with a maize processing kit consisting of several machines and trained its members in their use. On Friday, May 8, 2026, an AIB correspondent inspected the equipment installed at the cooperative's headquarters and gathered feedback from the beneficiaries, who expressed their satisfaction with this support from the Ministry.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the equipment handed over includes a hulling mill, a flour mill, a winnowing machine, a peanut roasting machine, and a generator. The beneficiaries also underwent three days of training on the use and maintenance of the equipment to ensure its proper functioning and durability.

The cooperative's president, Kayaba Odette Kabore, stated that the support will strengthen the organization's production capacity. She mentioned that the machinery provided by the Ministry of Agriculture includes equipment that hulls, winnows, crushes, and roasts, which is essential for their operations. The cooperative is involved in producing couscous, corn flour, and fortified infant flour made from corn.

Ms. Kabore praised the selection process of the DGPV, which involved site visits to evaluate ongoing activities and verify the availability of suitable premises for the equipment. She noted that one cooperative per region was selected to receive similar support, tailored to each region's specific area of activity. She expressed gratitude for the donation and the opportunity to be selected.

She also highlighted the responsibility imparted to them by the trainers regarding the management of the equipment, which was acquired through public resources. The cooperative was informed that the donation resulted from contributions by the people through taxes and duties, and there is an expectation to develop and contribute to the well-being of the Burkinabe people.

The Wend-ndila cooperative, based in Sector 1 of Zorgho, processes local products and produces couscous, fortified flour for children's porridge, and juices made from non-timber forest products such as vines, baobab fruit, hibiscus, and pineapple. Officially recognized in 2022, it has nearly thirty members, including people with disabilities and internally displaced persons, and also provides training in several areas of agri-food processing.
