Wang Yi to Attend BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Rio De Janeiro

Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will take part in the meeting of BRICS foreign ministers in Rio de Janeiro, which will take place from April 28-29, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, the Chinese foreign minister will attend the sixth meeting of the foreign ministers of China and Central Asian countries and the second strategic dialogue of the foreign ministers of China and Kazakhstan from April 25-30, which will be held in Kazakhstan, as well as participate in the meeting of BRICS foreign ministries and the 15th meeting of high representatives of the BRICS countries on security issues, which will be held in Brazil.

The top Chinese diplomat will exchange views with parties on BRICS cooperation, the current international and regional situation, as well as other issues of mutual interest in preparation for the 17th BRICS summit. The spokesman added that the upcoming meeting in Rio de Janeiro would be the first meeting of foreign ministers after Indonesia and nine partner countries joined BRICS.

BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006 by Russia, China, India, and Brazil. South Africa joined in 2011. Since the beginning of 2024, a number of other countries have joined BRICS.
