KIAMBU COUNTY: The Governor Wamatangi Football Championships, a prominent local sporting event, are scheduled to resume on October 27 at the Kirigiti International Stadium in Kiambu County. This tournament had been previously postponed from its initial June 30 date but will now see teams competing for the coveted title.

According to Kenya News Agency, the cup finals will feature a match between Githunguri Seniors FC and Butterfly Football Club, with the third-place playoffs set between Copia FC and B.Fast Football Club. These teams earned their positions in the finals through a series of competitive matches earlier this year. Butterfly F.C. notably secured their spot by defeating Copia FC 2-0 at Thika Stadium on February 25.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi of Kiambu County announced substantial monetary rewards for the tournament’s top teams. The champions will receive Sh500,000, while the runners-up will be awarded Sh250,000. The third and fourth-placed teams will take home Sh100,000 and Sh50,000, respectively.
These incentives aim to encourage competitive spirit and participation in the local sports scene.

Governor Wamatangi emphasized his administration’s commitment to fostering sports development, with a focus on creating career pathways for young athletes. As part of these efforts, several stadiums across the county have been refurbished, including Thika, Kagwe, and Githunguri Stadiums. Additionally, improvements have been made to Kanjeru Stadium, Thigio Grounds, and the Kirigiti International Stadium to enhance facilities for players and spectators alike.
