WAJIR COUNTY—In a significant show of support for National Police Reserves (NPR) during the holy month of Ramadan, Wajir County has initiated a food distribution program in Tarbaj Sub County. The County Commissioner, Karuku Ngumo, and Tarbaj Member of Parliament, Hussein Abdi Bare, led the event, marking a crucial effort to aid NPR officers and their families.

According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative distributed 20 tonnes of food, including 400 bags of rice and 120 bags of beans, each weighing 50 kilograms, to assist NPR personnel during Ramadan. The gesture is particularly meaningful in the context of the region’s security challenges, acknowledging the reservists’ role in maintaining peace and stability, especially against threats from insurgent groups like al-Shabab.

Commissioner Ngumo took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the NPR officers for their dedication and sacrifice. He highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing their needs, stating, “I came to meet them as the chair of the county security committee. I have listened to their grievances, and while some have been addressed today, there are others that require further attention from our Nairobi headquarters.” Ngumo emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting the reservists’ contributions to national security.

Echoing the commissioner’s remarks, MP Hussein Abdi Bare praised the NPR officers for their courage and resolve, particularly in light of the upcoming Ramadan celebrations. He stressed the importance of ensuring that these officers, who play a critical role in safeguarding the community, can observe the religious occasion with their families and loved ones.

The joint effort by local authorities and elected officials to provide this support underscores a shared commitment to the welfare and morale of security personnel, reinforcing the community’s solidarity and appreciation for their service.

TANA RIVER – In an effort to address the urgent needs of vulnerable populations during Ramadan, Tana River county has mobilized state resources to facilitate the distribution of essential food supplies.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Principal Secretary for Arid Lands and Semi-Arid Lands, government departments have been instructed to provide vehicles for the transport of relief food to remote areas in need. Dakota, who spoke at Lisa Hola School for the deaf, also encouraged the exploitation of the agricultural potential provided by the River Tana to mitigate persistent food insecurity.

At the same gathering, Shekhe Obute Musa, the head of the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) in Tana River County, acknowledged the national government’s contribution of substantial food aid, including 320 bags of rice, 800 bags of beans, and additional provisions of cooking oil and meat. This initiative aims to support families across various sub-counties, namely Bangale, Tana River, Tana Delta, Tana North, and Galdyetu, with each designated to receive a specified allocation of the supplies.

Despite the welcome aid, Shekhe Musa highlighted logistical challenges, particularly with transportation, as some vehicles designated for food distribution require repair. Furthermore, funding limitations have been noted as a constraint in executing the program effectively. Nevertheless, SUPKEM is committed to ensuring that all vulnerable groups have access to the donated food to prevent hunger and starvation during the sacred month.

Adding to the voices of appreciation, Tana River County Commissioner David Koske confirmed the readiness to distribute the relief food across all sub-counties, emphasizing the timeliness during Ramadan. Ms. Amina Dika, the Women representative of Tana River County, also expressed her thanks, reflecting on similar support received during previous flood crises in the region.

The collaborative effort between government entities and religious organizations illustrates a strong community commitment to supporting those in need during times of both celebration and challenge.
