Wajir County: In a significant event held at the Wajir County Referral Hospital, Wajir County in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross marked World Mental Health Day, focusing on the necessity of mental health awareness in the workplace.
According to Kenya News Agency, the event convened health officials, community leaders, and residents to discuss the crucial role of mental health in enhancing personal and professional lives. Led by Habiba Ali, the County Executive Committee Member for Health, the gathering emphasized open discussions on mental health issues and the collective responsibility of the community to support each other.
Ali highlighted the theme of this year’s celebration, “It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace,” which aims to address workplace challenges such as stress, burnout, and anxiety. “With increasing pressure in modern work settings, mental health requires the same attention as physical health,” Ali remarked during her speech.
The event underscored the importance of
creating supportive and healthy work environments as central to the welfare of employees. Notable healthcare figures, including Dr. Mohamed Aden Hillow, a consultant psychiatrist, and the county’s Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) coordinator, were present, demonstrating the collaborative efforts needed to enhance mental health support across the community.
World Mental Health Day serves as a vital platform for raising awareness and promoting actionable steps to address mental health challenges in all sectors of society.
