‘Waiyans’ Enhance Road Safety on RN17 to Combat Terrorism

Tenkodogo - In a collaborative effort to improve security along the Tenkodogo-Ouargaye axis, local citizen watch leaders known as 'Waiyans' cleared vegetation along approximately 15 kilometers of national road No. 17 on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The initiative, led by the mission manager for the Center-East region, Adama Kamboné, aimed to increase visibility and aid in the fight against terrorist activities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, an elder among the 'Waiyans', the community's involvement in maintaining the road is crucial to support the ongoing efforts of the fighting forces. He referenced a local Mossi proverb emphasizing communal responsibility in enhancing security measures. The cleanup involved leaders from various communes including Boussouma, Garango, Tenkodogo, Bittou, Mogandin, Bissiga, and Lalgaye, and even members of the Togolese community residing in Tenkodogo.

Adaman Kamboné, the representative of the President of Faso for the region, stressed the importance of local resilience and cooperation with the security forces, especially in intelligence sharing for the liberation of Koulpélogo province. The head of the local military detachment praised the efforts of the 'Waiyans', noting the initiative has bolstered the morale and effectiveness of the security forces, and pledged to intensify efforts to ensure the safety of the populace and the return of peace to the region.
