Ouagadougou: The Stallions (girls) of Burkina Faso and the Cheetahs (boys) of Benin emerged victorious in the African school football championship of the West African Football Union of Zone B. The finals took place at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou, where Burkina Faso defeated Ghana with a score of 1-0, and Benin overcame Niger after a 1-1 draw, winning 5-4 on penalties.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkina Faso's victory was secured by a goal from Marie Louise Pacmogda in the 19th minute, with Ghana unable to find an equalizer. In the boys' category, Benin and Niger were evenly matched, leading to a tense penalty shootout that ultimately favored Benin.
The tournament recognized individual talents, with Burkina Faso's women's goalkeeper, Nafissatou Zabre, earning the title of best goalkeeper, and Assaitou Belem being named the best player of the competition. The men's team from Burkina Faso, while finishing fourth, was awarded the Fair Play Award for their sportsmanship.
The success of the Burkina Faso women's national team has also secured their qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations in their category, scheduled for 2026. The WAFU Zone B African School Football Championship, held in Ouagadougou from December 1st to 4th, 2025, featured participation from six West African countries.
