Voting Commences in Oshikoto for Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections

Oshikoto: Voting has started at the Onankali South Combined School polling station in the Onyaanya Constituency of the Oshikoto Region for the Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections. Voters began queuing from as early as 03h00, demonstrating strong civic engagement.

According to Namibia Press Agency, ECN presiding officer Delila Reinhold confirmed that the elderly and vulnerable are being prioritized to vote first. At the time Nampa visited the station, the queue had about 30 people.

At the Epandulo Combined School in the Omuthiya Constituency, 65-year-old John Shimanya from the Onalunike village cast his vote early. Shimanya highlighted to Nampa the key concerns for rural communities. He stated, 'We want the next leader to prioritize villages and schools that do not have water and electricity, and to make sure drought relief food reaches every household.'

These issues reflect ongoing challenges in many rural parts of Namibia, particularly in the north, where infrastructure and food security remain top voter priorities.
