Voters Demand Service Delivery Improvements in Omaheke

Omaheke: Voters in the Omaheke Region are placing high demands on service delivery from their prospective constituency and local authority councillors.

According to Namibia Press Agency, several voters expressed their expectations of the leaders they are electing in the regional council and local authority elections. Kosman Kosman of Otjijere village in Aminuis highlighted a lack of access to water as a major challenge affecting his family. The 64-year-old voter shared his concerns after casting his vote at Aminuis's Kambanderu Kauta Hall polling station, noting that water is essential for both the community and their livestock. He expressed hope for change with this election, emphasizing the need for a borehole to alleviate the suffering of the San community in the area.

Kosman also pointed out the need for proper housing, urging constituency leaders to assist with building decent structures. He mentioned the worsening situation as the rainy season begins, highlighting the community's lack of financial resources to purchase materials like zinc sheets for shelter.

Eden Wecke from Gobabis voted with the intention of ensuring improved service delivery from the municipality. She criticized the current state of municipal services and expressed hope that newly elected leaders would bring about positive change.

Page Njembo, a long-distance driver between Otjinene and Gobabis, shared his concerns about the poor road conditions in Gobabis, which he said cause damage to vehicles and complicate passenger transport to locations like Kanaan and Pie Camp. He urged for the construction of proper shelters and toilets at the loading zone in Gobabis.

Perinao Kaune of Kanaan C settlement expressed her desire for change in her location, citing the lack of water and electricity. As a mother of three running a small business to support her family, she highlighted the challenges she faces and called on incoming leaders to create opportunities for youth empowerment, with a focus on employment prospects.
