Seno: The technical advisor to the governor of the Sahel region, Edgar Compaore, initiated vocational training activities in Dori during a ceremony attended by various stakeholders, including students and their parents. This event marked a significant step in the regional rollout following the national launch on November 28, 2025, in Dedougou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative aligns with the broader vision to transform the Burkinabe education system by enhancing technical and vocational education and training. Damien Tiendrebeogo, the provincial director of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training of Seno, emphasized that the regional launch in Dori symbolizes the Sahel region's dedication to educational transformation.
He highlighted that the establishment of the Ministry of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training (MESFPT) in August 2024 underscores this strategic shift. The initiative aims to increase the enrollment rate in technical and vocational education to at least 60% by 2050.
Mr. Tiendrebeogo also explained that the vocational activities are designed to provide students with practical insights into various professions, focusing on developing manual skills and practical knowledge within general education settings. He expressed confidence in the initiative's potential to create new opportunities for students and enhance the national education system's relevance. He also thanked technical and financial partners and administrative authorities for their support.
Hamidou Oumarou Sow, principal of the provincial high school in Dori, stated that schools should prepare individuals to be "useful to themselves and the community." He urged attendees to pursue careers in technical and vocational fields diligently.
Representing the school councils, Boubacar Abdouramane Cisse voiced parental support for the initiative, considering technical and vocational training as "the best offer for their children."
Edgar Compaore closed the ceremony by urging full mobilization of authorities, education officials, teachers, parents, and partners. He encouraged students to take advantage of this opportunity to discover talents, explore new perspectives, and cherish the power of their hands and minds as a foundation for a promising future in the Sahel region and Burkina Faso.
