Vihiga Governor Commits to Socio-Economic Transformation Through ICT and Efficient Governance

Vihiga, Kenya – Governor Wilber Ottichilo of Vihiga has committed to implementing projects and policies aimed at driving socio-economic transformation in the county. Emphasizing the role of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in this endeavor, the Governor has partnered with Chinese Tech firm Huawei to train 170 young people in digital skills, preparing them for online jobs.

According to Kenya News Agency, who made this announcement during a state of the county address at the county assembly on Thursday, ICT presents a burgeoning market for employment opportunities across various sectors. He encouraged the youth to adopt these skills for their advancement. The Governor also stressed the importance of integrating the latest technologies in agricultural activities to enhance productivity.

Highlighting strides in governance, Dr. Ottichilo noted that his administration has automated revenue collection, effectively sealing loopholes in the manual system and improving local revenue figures. In the financial year 2022-2023, the county realized Sh 229,848,535, slightly below the target of Sh 284,073,208, but aims for better performance in the current year.

The Governor also addressed the need for continuous professional development for county employees, announcing plans for regular training sessions to keep them updated with the latest trends in their respective fields. Furthermore, he pledged to maintain and strengthen a collaborative relationship with the county assembly and other political leaders for the county’s prosperity.
