Vihiga County Unveils Agro Ecology Policy to Boost Food Production

Vihiga: Vihiga County has launched an Agro ecology policy aimed at increasing food production through the integration of organic resources as farm inputs and the adoption of organic practices. This initiative marks Vihiga as the second county in the country to implement such a policy, following Murang'a, which launched its own earlier this year.

According to Kenya News Agency, during the launch event, Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilbur Otichilo expressed optimism regarding the health and economic benefits that the policy will bring to the residents. He emphasized the importance of embracing the policy to ensure its successful implementation. Governor Otichilo also assured that the county would allocate the necessary resources to fully implement the policy in accordance with national guidelines.

The county's Director of Agriculture, Reuben Chumba, committed to collaborating with stakeholders to facilitate the policy's adoption and execution. Chumba also encouraged neighboring counties to consider adopting similar policies to enhance regional agricultural practices.
