Vihiga County Introduces Free Wi-Fi Service to Enhance ICT Access

Vihiga: Vihiga County has launched a free and reliable internet connectivity service to allow many area residents to enjoy the benefits of ICT. The free internet has been installed within Vihiga County Government offices and has been received with joy and excitement by the residents, especially the local youth.

According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative is seen as a transformative step in making the county a region with fair and equitable internet coverage. It is considered a significant advantage for the youthful population, who can now access online opportunities that were previously available only to affluent families.

The free Wi-Fi service has also positively impacted service delivery in crucial sectors such as medical care, education, business, and access to information and entertainment. Every evening, the youth gather around the premises of the Vihiga County Government to enjoy free Wi-Fi.

A spot check by KNA revealed the joy of the youthful population. Creflo Adiye, a medical student at the Vihiga Kenya Medical Training College, is one of the beneficiaries of the free internet. He says the internet has helped him access a broad range of educational materials, enhancing his studies and boosting access to academic resources and knowledge. Additionally, Creflo has managed to secure an online job.

James Mmbai asserts that free Wi-Fi has reduced the financial burden of internet subscriptions. He notes that he has also been able to access a wide range of government services online. Vincent Onzere confesses that free Wi-Fi has helped him research and make informed choices on career courses as he awaits to join college.
