Vihiga: The Vihiga County Government has formalized a partnership with WASH Alliance Kenya to improve coordination in water, sanitation, and hygiene services. The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding aims to establish clear objectives, operational frameworks, and a robust monitoring and evaluation matrix in line with the World Health Organization’s 2015-2025 WASH Strategy.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo emphasized that the collaboration will significantly enhance preventive and promotive healthcare within the county, targeting the elimination of diseases that can be mitigated through proper hygiene and sanitation. He noted that the partnership is expected to strengthen the health, water, and sanitation sectors within Vihiga County.

Dr. Ottichilo further stated that the agreement would ensure effective management of human resources and strict compliance with health, water, and sanitation regulations. Planned activities include capacity building for community leaders, health
staff, and Community Health Promoters. Additionally, the initiative aims to fortify school health clubs and raise awareness about WASH and Non-Communicable Tropical Diseases, such as malaria, diarrhea, and soil-transmitted parasites.

The Governor also praised the WASH Alliance for its efforts in mass administration of anti-helminthic drugs to school children, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in promoting community health.
