Hanoi: Vietnam’s leather and footwear industry has targeted an export value of 29 billion U.S. dollars this year, marking a 10 percent increase from the previous year. Phan Thi Thanh Xuan, the vice chairwoman and general secretary of the Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association, emphasized that achieving this target would hinge on consumer demand and the adoption of green standards and sustainable development practices required by international markets.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Nguyen Duc Thuan, chairman of the association, stated that the industry has also set an ambitious goal of reaching a total export value of 38-40 billion dollars by 2030. This outlook is supported by several large enterprises that have already secured export contracts extending into mid-2025.

Despite challenges such as declining prices, higher quality demands, rising input costs, and labor shortages, Vietnam’s leather, footwear, and handbag industry achieved a significant export value of approximately 27 billion dollars in 2024. This represents an 11.5 percent increase from the previous year, illustrating the industry’s resilience and potential for growth.
