Vice President to Speak at ICCF Annual Gala on Tuesday

Washington: Vice President Esperança da Costa will speak on Tuesday (28) in Washington, D.C., United States of America (USA), at the annual gala of the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF), an opportunity to present Angola's progress related to the diversification and protection of conservation areas, as well as the initiatives to promote biodiversity and ecological stability in the country. According to Angola Press News Agency, the gala is an international platform for exchanging experiences on environmental protection, green economic growth, and sustainable development. The event is expected to bring together political leaders, experts, international organizations, and civil society representatives. The organizers of the event have noted that it will be attended by more than 400 guests, including high-ranking state officials, former presidents, and heads of government who are prominent advocates for environmental causes. William J. Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Queen Noor of Jordan, Theodore "Ted" Roosevelt IV, and U.S. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, among other individuals, are confirmed guests. The ICCF gala aims to reinforce the global commitment to biodiversity conservation, protect strategic ecosystems such as the Amazon rainforest and the Congo Basin, and fight climate change by preserving carbon-storing forests and expanding protected ocean areas. It will also encourage the promotion of sustainable economic models that connect the development of local communities with the rational management of natural resources, including agriculture, fishing, and eco-fashion. Employing indigenous communities and peoples in environmental protection and the preservation of traditions and livelihoods is also a priority of the initiative, which focuses on the use of science, technology, and global partnerships to support conservation projects. In previous editions, the gala has recognized prominent figures such as Angolan Head of State, Joo Lourenço, King Charles III of the United Kingdom, US businessman Jeff Bezos, US entrepreneur Rob Walton, and Prince Albert II of Monaco for their contributions to environmental causes. President Joo Lourenço was awarded in 2021 for his commitment to protecting the environment and the sustainable management of natural resources.
