Uzbekistan Plans New International Airport and Highway to Boost Connectivity

Tashkent: Uzbekistan is set to enhance its transportation infrastructure with the construction of a new international airport and a highway, as announced by the press service of the Uzbek President.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received updates on the progress of key projects aimed at transforming the nation's transportation sector. The growing economy and rapid pace of life have increased the demand for improved transportation infrastructure. By 2030, Tashkent's passenger traffic is anticipated to reach 15 million people, highlighting the need for expanded facilities.

Plans are being developed to build a new international airport in the Tashkent region to meet these demands. The proposals from various foreign companies are currently under consideration. Additionally, there has been a significant uptick in investment towards road infrastructure, with new developments underway. Several international companies have shown interest in constructing an alternative highway connecting Tashkent and Samarkand, further enhancing connectivity between major cities.

In June, the Eurasian Development Bank projected that Uzbekistan's GDP would grow by 6.5 percent by 2025, underlining the country's economic potential and the importance of infrastructure development to support this growth.
