Nigeria: The US military carried out a strike against fighters from the Islamic State terrorist group in Nigeria, US President Donald Trump announced Thursday. "Tonight, at my command as commander-in-chief of the United States, a powerful and lethal strike was launched against the thugs among the Islamic State fighters in northwestern Nigeria, who have brutally murdered innocent Christians on a scale not seen in years, perhaps hundreds of years," the US president announced on Truth Social, as reported by several media outlets.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Trump further warned these terrorists that if they didn't stop killing Christians, they would "pay dearly," which he claimed occurred with the recent strike. He emphasized his commitment to not allowing radicals among Islamic terrorists to thrive and indicated that there would be "many more" terrorists killed if the radicals continued their acts of violence.
The United States Africa Command (Africom) confirmed on X that the operation was conducted "at the request of the Nigerian authorities," and specified that the attack resulted in "the elimination of several Islamic State terrorists."
