US Engages in Dialogue to Grasp Causes of Ukraine Conflict, Says Russia’s Naryshkin

Minsk: There is an intensive dialog with the United States, which shows the country's desire to understand the causes of the Ukraine conflict, the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergei Naryshkin, said on Tuesday. "As you know, there is a fairly intensive dialogue between representatives of Russia and the US at various levels. And the very fact of these contacts is positive. And, of course, it stands in stark contrast to what happened under the administration of [former US President Joe] Biden," Naryshkin told reporters in Minsk, adding that the current US administration's desire "to understand the causes of the Ukrainian crisis" was evident in this dialogue.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Russia, unlike Ukraine, fully complies with the moratorium on strikes on energy facilities, the SVR chief said, adding that the country's goals in the conflict are Ukraine's nuclear-free status, demilitarization, denazification, and recognition of Russia's current territorial borders.

Naryshkin further elaborated on Russia's perspective, stating, "We understand that the Kiev regime wants to prolong the armed conflict, and we know why. Only under these conditions can the current Kiev authorities remain in power and avoid accountability for the crimes they have committed against their people," he added.
