Washington: The United States is expressing frustration over European leaders’ failure to deliver the smarter economic and migration policies that their citizens are demanding, as stated by US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Vance highlighted this concern during an interview with the UnHerd news portal, stating that the US administration, including himself and President Trump, is disappointed by the European leaders’ tendency to disregard the electoral demands of their populations. “We’re very frustrated – ‘we’ meaning me, the President, certainly the entire Trump administration – that European populations keep on crying out for more sensible economic and migration policies, and the leaders of Europe keep on going through these elections, and keep on offering the European peoples the opposite of what they seem to have voted for,” he said.

Furthermore, Vance emphasized the need for Europe to move away from being a “permanent security vassal” of the United States. He referenced French general Charles de Gaulle’s perspective on the matter, acknowledging that while de Gaulle had a fondness for the US, he also recognized the importance of Europe not being overly reliant on American security.

Vance expressed concerns that many European countries lack adequate military capabilities due to insufficient investment in security by their leaders. This, he believes, compromises their ability to ensure their own security and autonomy.
