ADDIS ABABA – The United States Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin Massinga, participated in Ethiopia’s ambitious endeavor to plant 600 million seedlings in a single day, underscoring the Green Legacy Initiative’s significance during the event in Addis Ababa. The initiative drew participants from diverse sectors across the nation.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the initiative not only aids in reforestation but also offers substantial economic benefits to agricultural producers. He emphasized the dual advantage of income generation and land protection for farmers, helping prevent the use of marginal lands that could lead to environmental issues like landslides. “Protection of the forest includes planting like we are doing today, but it also includes helping rural people in Ethiopia protect their land,” Massinga stated, highlighting ongoing U.S. support through university partnerships and collaboration with federal and regional governments.
