Ouagadougou: The National Universal Health Insurance Fund (CNAMU) initiated a discussion workshop on Thursday in Ouagadougou with regional health officials and hospital directors, aiming for better ownership of the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU) and the contractualization process with health centers.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the chief of staff of the Minister of Civil Service, Labor and Social Protection, Emmanuel Sorgho, stated that this meeting aims to strengthen the understanding and involvement of health structures in the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU). The initiative is a step towards guaranteeing every person living in Burkina Faso equitable and sustainable access to quality healthcare, upholding the spirit of solidarity and social justice.
This workshop is an important step in informing and raising awareness among regional health directors and hospital directors about the progress of RAMU, operational mechanisms, registration procedures, and associated management tools, the chief of staff indicated. Mr. Sorgho noted significant progress in the operationalization of the scheme, highlighted by the adoption of several legal texts between 2023 and 2025 to regulate aspects related to affiliation, the basket of care, agreements, financing, and medical control. Additionally, modern management tools such as the Integrated RAMU Management System (SIGRAMU) have been developed to ensure effective monitoring of the system.
For the Director General of CNAMU, Soumaila Gansore, the State has made the benefit of the right to health a reality through the improvement of various health centers and mechanisms necessary for the population to access healthcare. He announced that as of October 12, 2025, CINAMU had 435,088 taxpayers, including 271,726 validated registrations, as well as 338 affiliated structures, divided between 176 public establishments and 162 private companies.
The Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU) was adopted on September 5, 2015. To ensure its management for the benefit of the population, with the exception of members of the national armed forces and their families, the National Universal Health Insurance Fund (CNAMU) was established.
