UNITA’s 14th Congress to Elect New Leader Amid Key Discussions


Luanda: UNITA will hold its 14th Ordinary Congress from Friday until the 30th, with the participation of 1,251 delegates who will elect the party’s next president. The leadership will be contested between Adalberto da Costa Jºnior, who seeks to renew his mandate, and Rafael Massanga Savimbi, who presents himself as an alternative.



According to Angola Press News Agency, the congress will not only focus on the election but also include the revision of the party’s statutes, the definition of its political line, and the approval of internal reports. Delegates from all provinces will engage in debates, strategic motions, and sessions to assess the country’s situation.



The organizing committee has confirmed that all preparatory tasks have been completed according to schedule. The provincial conferences successfully elected delegates and candidates for the Political Commission and analyzed proposals for statutory revision.



The internal campaign of the two candidates, who extensively toured the country, concluded on the 26th of this month. Following the opening ceremony, the program includes a debate between the candidates on the 28th. Subsequent work will take place in committees and plenary sessions, with the election of the party’s president scheduled for the 30th.



The Electoral Commission assures that all necessary conditions are in place to guarantee a transparent election process.
