Luanda: The UNITA Parliamentary Group has urged the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) to undertake requalification efforts at the Central Morgue, located next to Josina Machel Hospital. The proposal aims to enhance the operational conditions of the facility in the nation's capital.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the president of the UNITA Parliamentary Group, Liberty Chiyaca, emphasized the need for the GPL to set up an anonymous reporting channel to combat corrupt practices. Additionally, he called for mandatory, ongoing training on hygiene, health, workplace safety, and professional ethics for morgue employees. Chiyaca also highlighted the necessity of monitoring adherence to personal protective equipment protocols.
Despite these suggestions, the Member of Parliament acknowledged recent improvements by the Luanda authorities, including the installation of two additional cold rooms at the Central Morgue. These enhancements are part of ongoing efforts to improve the services offered by the institution.
Chiyaca disclosed that the UNITA Parliamentary Group plans to request a detailed report from the Executive. The report will cover budget allocations for the rehabilitation, construction, and equipping of morgues in Luanda province, dating back to 2020. He also mentioned plans to increase control and inspection activities, alongside conducting new verification visits to all morgues and other health institutions.
As part of the parliamentary inspection action, last month, UNITA MPs visited the Central Morgue of Luanda, adjacent to the Josina Machel Hospital, assigned to the Provincial Government of Luanda.
