The United Nations Population Fund in Tunisia (UNFPA-Tunisia), on Monday, launched the awareness campaign #Ça_s_appelle_Féminicide (It is called Feminicide) on social media, as part of the International Women’s Day, observed on March 8 every year.
Meriem Ouled Chaib, press and communication officer at UNFPA-Tunisia told TAP the awareness campaign, which will run until March 15, is based on the outcome of a survey on feminicide in Tunisia.
The survey was developed in December 2022 by UNFPA-Tunisia in partnership with the Faculty of Legal, Political and Social Sciences of Tunis and funded by the European Union under the programme “Emna: for a comprehensive response to gender-based violence.”
The social media campaign aims to raise awareness of feminicide, generate debate around this phenomenon and recognise feminicide as a gender crime.
