Windhoek – UNAM Football Club broke their four-match losing streak with a victory against Civics Football Club in the 2023/24 Debmarine Namibia Premiership. The match took place on Friday night at the UNAM Sport Field, where UNAM emerged victorious with a score of 2-0.
According to NAMPA, both UNAM and Civics entered the match with equal points from the same number of matches. The game began with a high level of competition, with UNAM’s Nestor Iiyambo successfully converting a penalty in the ninth minute. This was followed by a goal from Vihimisa Siririka ten minutes later, securing a comfortable lead for UNAM by halftime.
During the second half, despite Civics’ efforts to alter the course of the game, UNAM maintained their advantage, effectively shutting down Civics’ long-passing tactics and ensuring their own defense was impenetrable.
This crucial win elevated UNAM to sixth place in the league standings, now with 10 points. This placed them level with Okahandja United, who consequently dropped to seventh. Attention is now turning to Okahandja United’s upcoming match on Saturday afternoon against Khomas NamPol, the current league leaders with 18 points.
The standings ahead of the weekend’s matches saw Khomas NamPol at the top, followed by FC Ongos with 16 points. African Stars stood third with 14 points, while Blue Waters held the fourth position with 12 points, tied with Chula Chula who has also made a significant impact in the fifth spot after their promotion.
