JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA — The Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, and the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, launched 11 initiatives aimed at galvanizing international media support for the recognition of Palestine. This occurred during the international forum entitled “Media and Palestinian rights: practical measures to take advantage of Palestine recognition initiatives” held last Sunday via videoconference.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the forum was a collaborative effort between the Deputy Secretariat for Institutional Communication and the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The event drew participation from a wide array of news agencies from Islamic countries, international media unions, heads of international news agencies, and various diplomatic and intellectual figures. The forum concluded with a set of recommendations, including the creation of an interactive media platform to monitor and document movements related to the Palestinian cause, and the publication of periodic reports.

These initiatives also include launching an electronic blog to enhance the visibility of international statements supporting Palestine and hosting periodic media forums in various world capitals to strategize on media support for the Palestinian cause. A special branch of the ‘Federation of Islamic News Agencies Award’ will also be introduced to honor journalistic works that effectively support and publicize the Palestinian issue.

Additional recommendations focused on strengthening cooperation between media outlets of international organizations concerned with Palestinian rights, such as the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Islamic World League. The aim is to raise media awareness and intensify monitoring of statements by Israeli officials and far-right parties that may violate international human rights standards.

During the opening of the forum, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa emphasized the crucial role of professional and objective media coverage in revitalizing international debate and pressing for a resolution to the Palestinian question. He remarked on the media’s pivotal role in documenting the violations against Palestinians and their impact on international perceptions.

The forum also highlighted recent international efforts, including the role of a ministerial committee led by Saudi Arabia, which has been active in garnering global support to halt conflicts in Gaza and promote a two-state solution. His Excellency Dr. Al-Issa expressed gratitude for the support of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in advancing the Palestinian cause.
