UN Secretary-General Calls for End to External Support for Sudan

Luanda: United Nations Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres on Tuesday called for an end to external support for Sudan, where civilians continue to be "massacred, starved, and silenced." Speaking at the opening of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Guterres stated that the Sudanese people deserve peace, dignity, and hope. He highlighted the extreme violence suffered by women and girls.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the UN chief urged all parties involved to protect civilians and warned that there is no military solution to the ongoing conflict. He called on member states to reaffirm their commitment to peace, human rights, and climate justice.

The general debate of the 80th session of the General Assembly continues until September 29 and is expected to be attended by hundreds of heads of state and government. On Tuesday afternoon, Angolan President and chairperson of the African Union, Joo Louren§o, will deliver his speech.
