UN Praises Angola’s AU Presidency

Addis ababa: The United Nations (UN) on Friday commended Angola for its leadership of the African Union (AU), emphasizing President Joo Louren§o's efforts in promoting peace and championing multilateralism.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the UN Secretary-General, Ant³nio Guterres, expressed this position at the conclusion of a meeting with the Angolan Head of State during the 39th African Union Summit. Guterres lauded Joo Louren§o's leadership of the AU, describing it as "extremely effective." He highlighted the Angolan president's commitment to fostering peace among the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the M23 movement, and Rwanda, noting that Louren§o's efforts are characterized by generosity in the current international climate.

The UN Secretary-General further stated that, despite existing challenges, multilateralism continues to be robust. He pointed out that the increasing complexity of global issues necessitates international cooperation, as isolated solutions by individual states are insufficient.

The 39th African Union Summit, which signifies the conclusion of Angola's tenure as the AU's rotating chair, is scheduled to take place on Saturday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
