UN and Burkina Faso Discuss Sustainable Food Systems Amid Security Challenges

OUAGADOUGOU—Carol Flore-Smereczniak, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Burkina Faso, met with Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana on Monday to discuss the establishment of a sustainable and lasting food system to support the Burkinabe populations. The meeting also addressed issues related to human security and the need for an adequate humanitarian response to communities in crisis.



According to the Burkina Information Agency, despite ongoing security challenges, the Burkinabe government has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to improving the welfare of its people. The United Nations System has expressed readiness to support these efforts, focusing on the critical intersections of food security, community stabilization, and humanitarian assistance. During the discussions, Ms. Flore-Smereczniak also extended her condolences and expressed solidarity with the people of Burkina Faso following a recent deadly attack in Barsalogho, underscoring the broader context of violence affecting the region.
