UK, US Conduct Joint Strike on Houthi Drone Facility in Yemen – Defense Ministry

Sanaa: The United Kingdom and the United States have conducted a joint military operation targeting a drone production facility of the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis, the UK Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the UK Defense Ministry confirmed that on April 29, 2025, UK forces participated in a joint operation with US forces against a Houthi military target in Yemen. This action aligns with the long-standing policy of the UK government following the initiation of the Houthis' campaign of attacks in November 2023. These attacks have threatened freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, struck international ships, and led to the deaths of merchant mariners.

The ministry's statement highlighted that intelligence analysis identified a cluster of buildings used by the Houthis to manufacture drones aimed at attacking ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. This facility is located 15 miles south of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

On March 15, US President Donald Trump ordered military action against the Houthis after they renewed attacks on Israel-linked ships in the Red Sea as a response to the blockade of the Gaza Strip. Earlier in April, the Houthis' leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, reported that the US had conducted over 900 airstrikes in Yemen within a month.
