Uasin Gishu: Vocational Training Centres (VTC) in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya, are poised to receive a significant boost in their training capabilities through a collaborative initiative with Work Aid International, a UK-based non-governmental organisation. The partnership aims to supply various VTCs throughout the county with essential training tools and equipment.
According to Kenya News Agency, the collaboration will facilitate the provision of specialized tools for courses including plumbing, masonry, bakery, and tailoring. Additionally, the VTCs will receive milk pasteurisers among other critical equipment. This initiative is part of Work Aid International’s broader effort to empower young individuals in Africa, enhancing their skills to better prepare them for the job market.
Grace Mwangi, the East Africa Regional Coordinator for Work Aid International, during a recent visit to the county with other officials from the NGO, emphasized the organization’s commitment to equipping young people with the neces
sary tools to become self-reliant. “We equip the institutions with tools for welding, fashion and garment making, wiring, food and beverages, salon, barber, bakery, and pasteurisers, among other courses,” Ms. Mwangi stated.
The visit included assessments of several VTCs in Mugundoi, Ngenyilel, and Eldoret to gauge their readiness to integrate and utilize the new equipment. The delegation included key county officials such as Julius Sang, the County Assembly Leader of Majority, Eunice Suter, Chief Officer of Social Services, Phylis Lagat, Director of Vocational Training, and Joseph Keroney, Director of Education.
Antony Sitienei, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education and Vocational Training, praised the partnership for its potential to significantly enhance the vocational training landscape in Uasin Gishu. “Our youthful population needs technical training that will help them gain skills to help them generate employment and be independent,” noted the CECM, underscoring the importance of pract
