Addis Ababa: The Ethiopian Investment Holdings and Agricultural Works Corporation have signed a significant shareholders agreement with the United Kingdom’s Asset Green Company, marking a 600 million USD investment in an Integrated Dairy and Commercial Farming Project. This monumental agreement was formalized in Addis Ababa, attended by notable dignitaries including Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh and British Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, this strategic partnership is a testament to the collaborative effort aimed at revolutionizing Ethiopia’s agricultural sector through substantial investment and the introduction of cutting-edge technology. The project is envisioned to propel sustainable development and large-scale commercial innovation within the sector.

The investment, approaching a valuation of nearly USD 600 million, is structured to unfold in two phases. Initially, the focus will be on establishing a world-class dairy farming and processing operation, supported by integrated feed farming across 15,000 hectares to secure a consistent supply chain.

In its subsequent phase, the initiative will broaden its reach into commercial farming, incorporating cotton, oilseed, and rice production. This expansion will be facilitated by advanced processing facilities and an integrated out-grower support center to boost value addition and market competitiveness.

Ethiopia’s Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amenti, highlighted the project’s potential to modernize the agricultural sector and facilitate technology transfer to local farmers. Meanwhile, Asset Green’s Chief Investment Officer, Albrecht Frischenfchlager, noted the project’s ambition to execute the largest milk development initiative in Africa.
