UK Almost Incapable of Weaning Itself From Dependence on US Intelligence Reports

London: The United Kingdom relies on the United States for intelligence and it is almost impossible for London to replace Washington's contribution in this area, Politico reported on Monday, citing current and former intelligence officials.

According to Namibia Press Agency, one of the officials mentioned that the UK can analyze imagery collected by the US from space, but it cannot collect such images itself. They emphasized that London should understand that any sharing of US intelligence data "can, of course, also be turned on or turned off."

Many British security and defense innovations have been funded by the US and could later be used by the Five Eyes alliance, comprising the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, Politico reported.

Experts believe that the UK would need to begin preparing for a previously unthinkable scenario if the US under President Donald Trump continues to distance itself from allies, the newspaper reported.

In the wake of a verbal clash with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, Trump in early March briefly halted all military aid to and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. Military aid shipments and intelligence sharing were resumed following the US-Ukraine talks in Jeddah on March 11, where Kiev expressed readiness to accept a US proposal for an initial 30-day ceasefire amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
