Ugandan pilot, Russian killed in DRC plane crash

KIVU (DRCongo)— Security sources confirmed two pilots had died in a plane crash in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

A Ugandan and Russian national were killed after a private business plane they were flying crashed inside a forest in South Kivu in DRC.

The dead pilots were identified as Jackson Ninsiima and his Russian colleague only identified as Peter who was reportedly flying to Goma from a DRC border near Kasese when their plane crashed.

The plane, which was heading to Goma, was reported missing on Friday, Nov 5 shortly after it had left Kasese with goods on board.

A search was carried out and on Saturday, November 5, images of the plane which had crashed between Kasese and Lulingu in South Kivu Province jungles were shared.

Details on who owned the private plane remained scanty by press time.

A second plane disaster within East Africa in a space of less than a week happened Nov 6, when a Tanzanian passenger plane belonging to Precision Air plunged into Lake Victoria as it attempted to land in the lakeside town of Bukoba.

The Precision Air flight, which saw 19 fatalities, was carrying 43 people, 26 of whom have since been rescued and sent to hospital, according to a local official.
