Kampala, Uganda – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has announced the construction of a new international stadium in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) football matches. Uganda, along with Kenya and Tanzania, was awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 AFCON finals by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in June 2023.
According to Africa News Agency, The new stadium will supplement Uganda’s existing sports facilities, including the Namboole and Nakivubo stadiums in the capital, Kampala, which are conveniently located near Entebbe International Airport. This development marks a significant step in Uganda’s efforts to enhance its sports infrastructure and readiness for the prestigious continental football event.
