UASIN GISHU: As the season for traditional initiation ceremonies approaches, Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr. Edyson Nyale has urged parents and stakeholders to prioritize the health and safety of boys undergoing circumcision. The commissioner emphasized the importance of strict adherence to safety measures to prevent fatalities during the ceremonies.

According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Nyale expressed concern over past tragic incidents where lives were lost due to inadequate health precautions during the rites. Speaking at the 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Naiberi Primary School in Ainabkoi Sub County, Dr. Nyale called on circumcision service providers, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure that both the seclusion habitats and the tools used for circumcision are sterilized and safe.

Dr. Nyale highlighted the importance of safeguarding the well-being of children involved, noting that incidents of torture during the secluded rituals have been a leading cause of fatalities. “As circumcisers, y
ou are the mentors of the children you handle. Therefore, ensure that all the children who undergo the procedure come out safely, as our primary mandate is to save lives,” he stated.

He further emphasized the necessity of implementing prevention and control measures, as well as quick emergency referrals, to ensure the safety of the boys during the rites, traditionally conducted in December. Dr. Nyale was accompanied by county security team members, including County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi and County Administration Police Commander Peter Chemos. Uasin Gishu Governor was represented by County Executive Committee Member for Devolution Elijah Koskei.
