Uasin Gishu County Reviews Project Progress and Sets Future Development Goals

Uasin Gishu: The County Government of Uasin Gishu has taken significant steps in reviewing the progress of its public investment projects as part of a midterm development review. During this review, Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim emphasized the need for renewed commitment to strengthening oversight and coordination across departments to fast-track the implementation of stalled projects.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Chelilim highlighted the importance of realigning development goals to ensure that all ongoing and upcoming projects reflect the priorities of the people and are delivered efficiently. Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea shared similar views, stressing the need for a strategic plan focused on accelerating stalled projects and improving accountability in service delivery.

During a session aimed at evaluating performance and realigning priorities, CECM of Finance Micah Rogony presented a comprehensive update on the projects implemented over the last two years. The review showcased the county’s efforts since the inception of these projects, tracking their progress, current status, and future plans.

The Finance CECM praised the county’s development agenda, which is driving transformation across Uasin Gishu County. He noted that the administration has made strides in emphasizing transparency and community engagement. Rogony also stressed the importance of structured planning and accountability in public investment.

A key focus of the session was the implementation of a new Public Investment Project Regulation. This regulation requires all public projects to begin with a Concept Note, a structured document outlining the need, scope, and expected impact of a project. Rogony explained that this regulation provides a legal framework for an efficient and effective public investment management process, introducing distinct, sequential stages from project identification and planning to full feasibility studies.

The session was attended by County Secretary Philip Meli, County Executives, Chief Officers, Legal team, Directors, Sub County and Ward Administrators, Water and Road Engineers, and the Communication team.
