Uasin gishu: The National Government has lauded Uasin Gishu County for its innovative County Service Centre, a comprehensive hub that combines business permit issuance with essential services like land rates payments. The initiative is driven by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii and aims to digitize revenue collection while enhancing service delivery with a focus on transparency, accountability, and citizen-centered governance.
According to Kenya News Agency, Secretary to the Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau, praised the system during her visit, describing it as 'one-of-a-kind' and aligning with President Dr. William Ruto's vision for digitization and efficiency in public service. She noted that the centre enables citizens to access all necessary permits in one location, avoiding the need to visit multiple offices. She emphasized that Uasin Gishu serves as a benchmark for other counties in terms of transparency and efficiency.
County Secretary Philip Meli stated that Governor Bii is dedicated to fully digitizing county services to reinforce people-centered governance. County Executive for Finance Micah Rogony mentioned that revenue collection has increased steadily since the system's launch. Martha Cheruto, County Executive Committee Member for Trade, pointed out that business owners can now apply for permits online and receive them promptly.
Other officials present during the visit included Chief Officer for Public Service Ruth Samoei, Licensing Director David Kebenei, Human Resource Director Nathan Koech, and ICT and Innovation Director Albert Tarus. The centre has been acknowledged for reducing bureaucracy, improving citizen experience, and promoting digital governance throughout the county.
