UASIN GISHU – In a strategic move to boost agricultural productivity and address youth unemployment, the Uasin Gishu County administration is implementing initiatives to involve young people in agriculture, integrating technology into the sector.
According to Kenya New Agency, a meeting was held to discuss effective strategies for engaging the youth in agriculture and leveraging technology for sectoral improvement. Sawe emphasized the importance of transforming the agricultural sector and empowering young people to combat unemployment.
Highlighting the critical role of the youth in shaping the future of agriculture, Sawe pointed out the necessity of harnessing their innovative ideas and energy to enhance productivity and address poverty. He believes that engaging young people in farming can usher in a new era of growth and prosperity in agriculture.
Ng’endo, on her part, stressed the importance of technology in augmenting agriculture’s capabilities. She advocated for promoting digital tools such as mobile applications, precision farming techniques, and data analytics. According to her, the use of technology in agriculture can make farming more efficient, sustainable, and attractive to the younger generation.
Chief Officer for Agriculture Elphas Kesio noted the immense potential in combining youth and technology in agriculture, emphasizing its significance in maximizing production. The county senior officials discussed key initiatives, including establishing youth agribusiness incubation centers, offering training programs on agricultural technology, and creating platforms for collaborative knowledge sharing.
Director of Agriculture Reuben Seroney commented on the collaboration between the agriculture and ICT departments, sharing a vision to engage the youth as a promising approach to eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable development through agriculture.
