Luanda: Angola and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) intend to strengthen existing cooperation ties with the official state visit of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of this Arabian Peninsula country from Sunday. This is the first official visit by a UAE Head of State to Angola, with the main objective of consolidating strategic partnerships in the economic, social, and humanitarian fields, as well as promoting the signing of new cooperation agreements. According to Angola Press News Agency, the visit focuses on strengthening cooperation in sectors such as sustainable investment, energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and digital transformation. Central to these efforts is the ongoing negotiation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which began in 2023. This agreement aims to reduce tariffs, facilitate market access, and create mutual investment platforms, thereby deepening economic cooperation between the two nations. The visit also underscores the UAE's growing solidarity wi th Angola in the social and humanitarian realms. This is evidenced by a recent donation of 25 ambulances, medicines, and medical equipment as part of a $220 million program to bolster the African healthcare system. Additionally, discussions will evaluate and potentially launch new memoranda of understanding in areas like solar energy, transportation, telecommunications, and digital transformation. The UAE's interest in Angola extends to investments in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, port logistics, agriculture, agribusiness, food processing, technology, and transportation. In agriculture and food security, cooperation initiatives are particularly active in arid regions like Cunene and Namibe, utilizing the UAE's expertise in desert-adapted agricultural techniques. During the Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) in Abu Dhabi in May 2024, Angola participated with representatives from 173 countries. The Angola-UAE Chamber of Commerce signed a memorandum with Apollonia Capital Advisors (Dubai) to support investment and business projects in Angola, highlighting the multifaceted nature of this growing bilateral relationship. This partnership is not only economic but also institutional and diplomatic, reinforced by bilateral agreements and interparliamentary committees. It includes humanitarian aid in health and participation in multilateral investment mechanisms, making the UAE a strategic partner in Angola's development.
