U.S. Ambassador to Niger Meets with Prime Minister Lamine Zeine in Niamey

Ouagadougou – In a continuation of regular diplomatic engagements, Ms. Kathleen FitzGibbon, the United States Ambassador to Niger, met with Niger’s Head of Government, Lamine Zeine, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Niamey. This meeting was reported by official sources within the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting between Ambassador FitzGibbon and Prime Minister Zeine was a customary diplomatic activity. The ANP noted that following the audience, which was categorized as a courtesy visit, no statements were made to the press.

Ambassador FitzGibbon, who assumed her position in Niger shortly after the change in presidency, had previously presented a figurative copy of her letters of credentials to Nigerien Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Bakary Yaou Sangaré, on December 2. Since General Abdourahamane Tiané’s rise to power in July 2023, the United States has continued to provide humanitarian aid to Niger. Additionally, U.S. military troops remain in the country to assist in the fight against terrorism. This ongoing U.S. involvement contrasts with France’s current position, which has notably reduced its ties with Niger.
