Kongoussi: A boy of about two years old was fatally struck during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, by an unidentified vehicle which was reversing at the exit of a car wash, in sector 5 of the city of Kongoussi, the AIB noted.

According to Burkina Information Agency, a traffic accident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at around 8:30 p.m., in sector 5 of Kongoussi, when a vehicle was leaving a car wash located not far from a liquor store. During his maneuver, the driver hit a two-year-old boy who immediately died. The victim lived with her mother in a neighboring courtyard. Her mother broke down in tears after discovering the scene.

Several witnesses interviewed by the AIB at the scene reported that the vehicle involved left the scene immediately after the accident, leaving no trace. “Apparently, the driver was unaware that he had run over a child. It was after he left that road users discovered the child’s lifeless body,” one of the witnesses stated.

The Kongoussi National Police carried out the report in the presence of a nurse, and an investigation was immediately opened to find the driver and determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. The boy was buried the same night in Kongoussi.

It should be noted that road accidents have been on the rise recently in the town of Kongoussi, causing concern among the population. In December 2024, the provincial director of the Bam national police, Kito Yaya Soulama, urged the population to respect the highway code in order to reduce road accidents.
