Two Wounded in Portland Shooting Involving Federal Agents

Portland: Two people were wounded Thursday in a shooting involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in Portland, Oregon, authorities said. Portland police reported that officers discovered a man and a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both individuals were transported to the hospital, and their conditions were not immediately known.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the shooting took place just one day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This incident has heightened public scrutiny on federal immigration enforcement and led to thousands of people protesting.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson expressed concern, stating that the city is facing another troubling incident. He emphasized that Portland cannot “sit by while constitutional protections erode and bloodshed mounts.” Mayor Wilson declared that Portland is not a “training ground” for militarized agents and warned of the deadly consequences of the “full force” threatened by the administration. He urged ICE to halt all operations in Portland until a thorough investigation is completed.

U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon called on the public to ensure that any protests related to the incident remain peaceful.
